The article reports that two universities in the Netherlands have distanced themselves from Dutch-born Nobel laureate Peter Debye in light of new scrutiny about his actions in Nazi Germany, which were brought about by the publication of the book Einsten in the Netherlands by Sybe Rispens, as of May 2006. Utrecht University has stripped Debye's name from its Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Nanomaterials and Interfaces, and Maastricht University will no longer award an international prize for mid-career physicists and chemists unless the sponsoring foundation renames it

Aantekeningen in zijn onverwacht opgedoken schoolboek uit 1896 laten zien dat de latere Maastrichtse Nobelprijswinnaar Peter Debye al jong gegrepen was door de fysische chemie. Het boek is het natuurkundeboek voor de hbs dat Nobelprijswinnaar Peter Debye (1884-1966) rond 1900 als scholier in Maastricht doorwerkte en van aantekeningen voorzag. De Delftse fysicus prof. Pieter Kruit, schonk het in Tsjechië opgedoken boek onlangs aan het Debye Instituut voor Nanowetenschap in Utrecht.
